Welcome to my personal and professional blog. My name is Vernon W. Cisney, and I am currently a visiting assistant professor of philosophy at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania, USA. My primary areas of research are contemporary continental philosophy, philosophy of film and literature, and social and political philosophy. I am the author of Derrida's Voice and Phenomenon: An Edinburgh Philosophical Guide, and the co-editor of Biopower: Foucault and Beyond, as well as The Way of Nature and the Way of Grace: Philosophical Footholds on Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life. In addition, I am the creator and organizer of The Gettysburg College Philosophy and Film Seminar, the inaugural session of which was titled 'The Thought of Terrence Malick.' . . . (To read the remainder of this post, click 'Read More').
My goal in creating this blog is to build a space for philosophical engagement, of both an academic and cultural nature. Here, I will post announcements of coming events and projects, think out loud on current questions, entertain considerations of and objections to my work, and offer philosophical reflections on films, books, and more. Thank you for reading, and please feel free to contact me!
